COLUMBUS – St. John’s Lutheran Church Shell Creek ELCA is hosting is 2nd Annual Maifest Polka Service.
Maifest is a worship service and meal that honors the church’s German heritage, says a press release.
The church was founded by German settlers in 1881 and began weekly services and mission based work. The primary language of the church was german for over 60 years, with 1927 marking the last conformation class to be confirmed in German, says a release.
The church switched it’s primary language to English in 1943.
The release says that Manifest serves to honor the strong ties, and features a lighthearted worship services that highlights their tradition, along with hymns set to popular polka tunes, says the press release.
Following the service a German-inspired meal featuring bratwurst, sauerkraut, and root beer will be served. The church is accepting free will donations for the event.
The church is located at 10785 280th Street and the service is at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 29th.
