Hunting Butterflies

BLAIR – Migration of Monarch Butterflies takes place during September according to Peter Rhea with the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge.    He says Monarchs will be fluttering their way to a certain ten acre spot in Mexico.  These aren’t the same ones that come up from Mexico in the spring, however, it will be the next generation or two.  Rhea says scientists are still studying how the butterflies instinctually know the path between our area and the winter location.  School groups will visit the refuge in the next few weeks to help gently capture and place a small sticker on the butterflies to help track the migration.  A similar activity will be open to the public  September 23rd.  You can find out more by friending DeSoto on Facebook.  (attached photos show some of the butterflies checking out the flowers at Real Country 97 Three)
