NATIONAL LEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

WASHINGTON 3 – Philadelphia 2… The Nationals withstood a ninth-inning rally to edge the Phillies and clinch the NL East crown. Adrian Sanchez doubled home a run and scored on Victor Robles’ double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trea Turner homered in the eighth. Stephen Strasburg (13-4) pitched two-hit ball over eight shutout innings and struck out 10.

 

Cincinnati 10 – N.Y. METS 5… The Reds erased a 5-2 seventh-inning deficit on their way to doubling up on the Mets. Zack Cozart and Tucker Barnhart belted three-run homers. Barnhart also doubled home two runs.

 

ATLANTA 10 – Miami 8 (11 innings)… Lane Adams came through with a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Braves outlasted the Marlins. Rio Ruiz tied the game with a two-run single to cap a three-run ninth. Tyler Flowers and Johan Camargo produced two-run singles during a five-run third.

 

Milwaukee 3 – CHI. CUBS 1… Zach Davies (17-8) held the Cubs to a run on seven hits over seven innings and the Brewers completed a series sweep to pull within two games of first-place Chicago in the NL Central. Travis Shaw homered with a runner aboard for Milwaukee.

 

LOUIS 7 – Pittsburgh 0… Yadier Molina went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and five RBIs as the Cardinals blanked the Pirates. Randal Grichuk added a two-run blast. Michael Wacha (12-7) allowed just five hits over eight innings.

 

Arizona 3 – SAN DIEGO 2… J.D. Martinez homered twice and Paul Goldschmidt also went deep as the Diamondbacks edged the Padres. Robbie Ray (13-5) gave up two runs on four hits and fanned 12 over six innings.

 

Colorado 8 – L.A. DODGERS 1… Tyler Chatwood (7-12) pitched five-hit ball over five scoreless innings and the Rockies dealt the Dodgers their 10th straight loss. Mark Reynolds unloaded a grand slam. Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story added solo shots.

 

AMERICAN LEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

TORONTO 8 – Detroit 2… Teoscar Hernandez homered twice and drove in five runs to help power the Blue Jays past the Tigers. Darwin Barney was a perfect 4-for-4 for Toronto. J.A. Happ (8-10) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out nine in six innings. One of the runs was unearned.

 

CLEVELAND 3 – Baltimore 2… Back-to-back homers by Roberto Perez and Francisco Lindor in the bottom of the sixth inning powered the Indians past the Orioles for their 18th straight win. Trevor Bauer (16-8) gave up two runs on seven hits over 6-1/3 innings.

 

Tampa Bay 4 – BOSTON 1… Wilson Ramos went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs as the Rays downed the Red Sox. Lucas Duda also went deep for Tampa Bay. Alex Cobb (11-9) surrendered a run on four hits over five innings.

 

N.Y. Yankees 16 – TEXAS 7… Gary Sanchez homered twice to reach 30 on the season and Aaron Judge belted his 41st homer as the Yankees ripped the Rangers. Didi Gregorius went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.

 

KANSAS CITY 11 – Minnesota 3… The Royals erupted to score six runs in the bottom of the second inning and Brandon Moss’ three-run homer capped a four-run seventh in the pounding of the Twins. Jason Vargas (15-10) allowed a run on four hits over five innings.

 

OAKLAND 10 – Houston 2… Matt Chapman, Ryon Healy, Boog Powell and Matt Olson all hit home runs as the Athletics crushed the Astros to complete a four-game sweep. Kevin Graveman (5-4) limited Houston to a run on five hits over six innings.

 

L.A. Angels 5 – SEATTLE 3… Justin Upton lined a go-ahead two-run double during a three-run top of the eighth inning that carried the Angels past the Mariners. Mike Trout and Luis Valbuena smacked solo homers for the Halos.

 

INTERLEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

CHI. WHITE SOX 8 – San Francisco 1… Jose Abreu blasted a pair of homers and knocked in three runs to lead the White Sox past the Giants. Tim Anderson went 3-for-4 with an RBI single. Carson Fulmer (2-1) held San Francisco to a run on three hits and fanned nine over six innings.
