NATIONAL LEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

Atlanta 8 – WASHINGTON 0… The Braves piled up nine extra-base hits in ripping the Nationals. Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies homered. Julio Teheran (11-11) scattered seven hits over seven innings. Reliever Luke Jackson held Washington scoreless over the final two innings.

 

PHILADELPHIA 9 – Miami 8 (15 innings)… The Phillies came from five runs down in the seventh inning to outlast the Marlins. Nick Williams doubled home Aaron Altherr from first base with the winning run in the bottom of the 15th inning. The second of Rhys Hoskins’ two solo homers tied the game in the 10th.

 

CHI. CUBS 8 – N.Y. Mets 3… Kris Bryant’s three-run homer capped a four-run bottom of the fourth inning and the Cubs cruised past the Mets. Jose Quintana (10-11) surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings.

 

LOUIS 13 – Cincinnati 4… Yadier Molina had a couple of hits and drove in three runs for the Cardinals in their thumping of the Reds. Paul DeJong went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs. Tommy Pham legged out a two-run triple and scored four times.

 

MILWAUKEE 5 – Pittsburgh 2… Eric Thames homered and singled home a run, Domingo Domingo Santana lined a two-run double and the Brewers downed the Pirates. Six Milwaukee relievers held Pittsburgh scoreless over the final six innings.

 

Colorado 4 – ARIZONA 2… Carlos Gonzalez connected for a pair of two-run homers to power the Rockies past the Diamondbacks for their sixth straight win. Jon Gray (8-4) gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out 10 in seven innings.

 

L.A. Dodgers 5 – SAN FRANCISCO 3… The Dodgers got past the Giants to snap their 11-game losing streak. Chase Utley homered and Yasiel Puig doubled home two runs during a four-run top of the fourth inning. Clayton Kershaw (17-3) allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings. One of the runs was unearned.

 

AMERICAN LEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

KANSAS CITY 4 – Chi. White Sox 3… Brandon Moss unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning and the Royals made it stand in holding off the White Sox. Sam Gaviglio (4-5) gave up two runs on seven hits over five innings.

 

TORONTO 3 – Baltimore 2… The Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand the Orioles their sixth straight loss. Luke Maile singled home the tying run and Richard Urena followed with a walkoff RBI single..

 

CLEVELAND 2 – Detroit 0… The Indians clipped the Tigers for their 20th straight win, tying the 2002 Oakland Athletics for the American League record. Corey Kluber (16-4) held Detroit to five hits in his sixth career shutout. Francisco Lindor provided all the offense Cleveland needed by belting his 30th homer in the bottom of the first inning.

 

TAMPA BAY 2 – N.Y. Yankees 1… Adeiny Hechavarria smacked a tiebreaking solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Rays made it stand in edging the Yankees. Kevin Kiermaier tied the game with a first-inning homer.

 

BOSTON 11 – Oakland 1… Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and six RBIs in leading the Red Sox in their rout of the Athletics. Eduardo Rodriguez (5-5) surrendered a run on just one hit and struck out nine in six innings.

 

Seattle 10 – TEXAS 3… Kyle Seager and Ben Gamel blasted three-run homers as the Mariners pounded the Rangers. Mike Zunino had a couple of hits and knocked in a pair of runs.

 

Houston 1 – L.A. ANGELS 0… Justin Verlander (12-8) allowed only Brandon Phillips’ first-inning double in a dominant eight-inning effort and the Astros nipped the Angels. Verlander fanned nine and didn’t walk a batter. Ken Giles came on to finish the shutout and earn his 30th save. Yuli Gurriel singled home Carlos Correa with the game’s only run in the top of the second inning.

 

INTERLEAGUE SCORE

MINNESOTA 16 – San Diego 0… The Twins banged seven home runs spanning each of the first seven innings on their way to clobbering the Padres. Jason Castro homered twice. Brian Dozier, Jorge Polanco, Eddie Rosario, Eduardo Escobar and Kennys Vargas also went deep. Kyle Gibson (10-10) pitched four-hit ball over six innings. Three relievers completed the shutout.
