Lady Warriors Earn Split as Lancers Swipe First Game

FREMONT, Neb. – Playing in their second conference doubleheader in as many days, Midland University narrowly missed their second straight sweep to start GPAC play over Mount Marty College. The Lancers snuck one past the Warriors, 1-0, in game one and then Midland responded with a 7-2 victory in game two. MU’s record moves to 16-9 (3-1 GPAC) while MMC moves to 7-13 (3-3 GPAC).

For the second straight day Jaylee Hinrichs reached double-digits in strikeouts during game one. She sat down 10 batters while allowing four hits. The lone run to come across the plate was unearned as it came across on a passed ball in the top of the 6th inning.

Game two’s starter for the Warriors, Madison Plummer, had another quality start as she went the distance. She struck out six batters while spreading seven hits over 7.0 innings of work. She allowed a pair earned runs but Midland’s offense came through with seven runs in the win.

Bobbi Singleton led the way at the plate for Midland as she had a pair of hits in four at-bats. She drove in two in the 5th on a single and then two more in the 6th on a double to finish with a game-high four RBI. Sierra Athow aided the Warriors’ offense as well with a pair of RBI. She doubled home a run in the 5th and then hit a sacrifice fly in her final plate appearance.

Midland’s next game will now be at College of Saint Mary (10-14, 1-1 GPAC) on Wednesday, April 11th. The Warriors and Flames will square off in Omaha with the first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 3:00 p.m.
