Local Sports Coming Up Today: Tuesday, 4/17

With temperatures finally improving to more springlike conditions, the fields are packed with athletes today in baseball, softball, tennis, lacrosse, soccer and golf.


The Blair High Golf Invite is today at River Wilds Golf Course, beginning at 10am.

The Blair baseball team will host South Sioux City at Vet’s Field, at 4:30, today. Blair defeated Omaha Gross Catholic last night, 7-1.  The Bears are 2-7 on the season.

In soccer last night, the Blair girls team defeated Norris, 2-0.  The Lady Bears are 7-4 on the year. The boys team also beat Norris, 3-2 in overtime and improved to 9-2 on the year.


Fremont / Bergan

The Fremont High girls tennis team takes on Columbus in a dual at Pawnee Park at 4:00, today.

The Archbishop Bergan boys golf team competes in the Blair Invite at River Wilds Golf Course, at 10:00, this morning.

The Bergan track and field teams compete in the Tekamah-Herman Invite, in Oakland, at 1:00, this afternoon.

The Archbishop Bergan baseball team will host Columbus at the Schilke Complex at 5:00 today.  The game will be broadcast on The Best Mix 105.5.




The Midland men’s bowling team competes in day one of the USBC Intercollegiate Championships, in Lincoln, today.

The Warrior baseball team will host Morningside College in a 4:00 doubleheader at Moller Field today.

The Midland women’s lacrosse team will host Benedictine College at 4:30 today at Heedum Field.

The Warrior softball team plays at Concordia University in Seward in a 5:00 doubleheader today.


Kansas City Royals

Monday’s series opener against the Blue Jays was postponed due to damage caused by falling ice and snow to the roof at Rogers Centre. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2:07 p.m. CT. The second game of the double header will be broadcast on Real County 97.3

Chicago Cubs

CHC vs. STL- PPD; vs. STL- 7:05 tonight on Boomer 1490/104.1



The Storm Chasers (2-9) return to Werner Park to begin a 4-game series against Memphis (and a 7-game homestand) tonight. LHP Jon Dziedzic (0-1, 1.64) will pitch for Omaha, while LHP Austin Gomber (1-0, 4.22) opposes him for the Redbirds.  First pitch is 6:35pm.
