DAVENPORT, Iowa – Midland University opened up their 2018 season this past weekend with a pair of games in Iowa. On Friday they took Clarke University, losing a close 12-10 decision, and then on Saturday they fell to Saint Ambrose University by one goal, 6-5.
Megan Collins scored five goals for the Warriors in the opener. Masey Jay had three goals and Jada Jordan had two, to round out the scoring for Midland. The Warriors put up 24 shots, converting on 10 in the loss. Tessa Singleton had a pair of saves but allowed 12 goals in 60 minutes versus Clarke.
On Saturday the two team were tied at 2-2 at the break. The Bees and Warriors battled back and forth in the second half. Midland took the lead early on, only to have Saint Ambrose tie the game moments later. They then scored twice to take a two goal lead and that’s where it stood with six minutes to go. Saint Ambrose would rally on their home field though as they scored at the 5:45 mark and the 3:20 mark to tie the game and then scored the game-winner with 1:52 left on the clock.
Midland had a pair of goals from Riley Yanek while Meredith Reehl, Sidney Hartig and Jada Jordan each had one score. Singleton had 11 saves on the afternoon and suffered the loss.
Next up for Midland (0-2, 0-1) will be their home opener on Friday, March 2. They’ll host Aquinas (0-0) at 6:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
