AMES, Iowa – Midland University’s men’s hockey season came to a close this weekend as they split a pair of game with Iowa State University. On Friday night, the Warriors fell 4-2 in Fremont in their home finale and then spoiled the Cyclones’ senior night with a 3-2 road win in Ames.
On Friday, playing in front of their home crowd for the final time, Midland was unable to come away with the victory as the Cyclones played spoiler. The teams were tied 2-2 heading into the final period before Iowa State scored midway through and then added an empty-netter for the 4-2 win.
Cy Jenson and Kevin Finley each scored and picked up an assist for the Warriors. Colton Jones also finished with an assist.
The next night it Ames it was the Warriors turn to play spoiler and they did just that. After falling behind 2-1 in the opening period they kept the Cyclone offense in check as they tied in the second period and won it in the third.
Jake Mullendore and Blake Neuman score the first two goals for Midland. Neumann assisted on Mullendore’s goal while Brad Hepler and Tyler Gallagher assisted on Neumann’s. Ryan Coneybear scored the game-winner in the final period off of assists by Mullendore and Neumann.
Midland’s season comes to an end with an 18-17-0-1 record. They finished one spot out of qualifying for the ACHA Men’s Division 1 National Tournament. Next year the Warriors will transition to a new division for men’s hockey. They’ll join seven other NAIA schools in the second season of the return of ice hockey at the NAIA level
