LAWRENCE, Kan. – Midland University’s bowling teams traveled south to the Sunflower State for the 2018 Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge. The two day event took place at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas and West Ridge Lanes in nearby Topeka. During qualifying the men finished 3rd out of 22 teams and then women were 2nd out of 20 teams. In bracketed play both teams fell one game short of the finals, finishing in a tie for third place.
The men defeated Hastings in the first round of bracketed play and then fell to William Penn. The women beat Ottawa before falling to Hastings in the semifinals.
Candice Goldfinch was the top female bowler for the Warriors with a 199.67 average. She was third highest on the women’s side, earning all-tournament honors.
Zach Karr placed 9th individually for the men, just missing the cut for the all-tournament team, with an average of 209.83.
In the junior varsity pools the men had a pair of teams, placing 2nd and 5th in qualifying. The top team would end up third after falling to Hastings in the semifinals. The women’s team finished 5th and did not make it to bracketed play.
Up next for the Warriors is the Leatherneck Classic this upcoming weekend, November 10-11. They’ll travel to Davenport, Iowa for the Tier 2 tournament beginning Saturday morning.
