SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University’s men’s tennis team opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference season with a 7-2 victory over Concordia University on Thursday on the Bulldog Tennis Courts. The Warriors improved to 9-7 overall on the season.
“The men were ready right away. We came out with the right mindset and showed high energy to get doubles started,” Coach John Steinke said.
Midland opened up the match by winning two of the three doubles competitions. Dylan Hatanelas and Jack Fryer won No. 2 doubles 8-3 while Enrique Lopez and Ryan VItera won No. 3 doubles 8-4.
“Going up 2-1 really helped to calm some of the nerves from it being our first conference match of the year,” Steinke said. “We didn’t let up in singles. We played well on every court and were able to take control of the match. Our guys are excited and believe in each other, and we are really looking forward to the rest of the GPAC season.”
